Reports are beginning to appear that the latest round of missile attacks by Russia against Ukraine’s power grid and other targets are ramping up concerns by countries on the border as the conflict threatens to spill over.
From Yahoo News picking up a report from the Kyiv Independent:
Polish and other allied aircraft were scrambled on March 29 in response to reports of a massive Russian missile attack against Ukraine, the Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces announced.
Ukraine's Air Force warned that Russia had launched multiple waves of missiles overnight and that an aerial alert was in effect throughout the country.
Explosions have been reported in multiple cities, including Dnipro and Ivano-Frankivsk, at the time of this publication.
"Tonight, intensive long-range aviation activity of the Russian Federation is observed, related to missile strikes carried out against objects located on Ukrainian territory," Poland's Operational Command said on X.
"All necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace have been activated."
From the Telegraph via AOL News:
...The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said “allied” aircraft joined the response to 99 Russian drones and missiles striking targets including thermal power plants.
Poland’s reaction is likely a response to a Russian cruise missile entering Polish airspace in recent weeks during an attack on Ukraine.
It is not clear which allies joined Poland, a Nato member, but fragments of a drone were reportedly found in Romania, also an alliance member, following an attack the previous day.
According to The Guardian, Poland had had demanded explanations from Russia 5 days earlier after their air space was briefly crossed by Russian missile attacks.
...Poland said it would demand an explanation from Moscow after a Russian missile briefly breached Polish airspace during a massive missile attack on Ukraine, prompting the Nato member to put its forces on heightened readiness.
Russia and Ukraine have been engaged in a series of deadly aerial attacks, with Sunday’s early morning strikes coming a day after the Russian military said it had seized the Ukrainian village of Ivanivske, west of Bakhmut.
...“Polish and allied aircraft have been activated, which may result in increased noise levels, especially in the south-eastern part of the country,” it said.
It later said Russia had violated Poland’s airspace with a cruise missile which “entered Polish space near the town of Oserdow (Lublin Voivodeship) and stayed there for 39 seconds”.
“During the entire flight, it was observed by military radar systems,” it added.
While Speaker Johnson dithers about bringing up aid to Ukraine for a vote, Russia is becoming more aggressive — and European allies are becoming more concerned as the odds of the conflict spilling over borders increase. The MAGA party isn’t just a threat to America.
This is a developing situation. Where it goes from here will be of interest, to say the least.
